Cavendish is the model for Avonlea in Anne of Green Gables, first published in 1908. Souvenir retail sits in roadside complexes along Route 6 between the Green Gables site and the beach entrance, plus the shops in Avonlea Village, and almost all of it closes from October to May.
What sells on Route 6
Red braids and a straw hat, red sandstone cliffs, lupins, a lighthouse, lobster and potatoes. Our artists draw an Anne-style design that reads right without using anyone's trademark, and a Cavendish beach wordmark with the red cliffs covers the national park crowd. The family buyer here wants matching kids' and adult sizes, so we build the program in the colour card brights that hold up on a beach. Evenings are cool and crewneck fleece sells in August.
