The North is a small market by visitor count and a serious one by spend: visitors have flown or driven for days, the evenings are cold in July, and the hoodie outsells the tee. Midnight sun, aurora, gold rush
Whitehorse and Dawson City sell the gold rush, the sternwheeler and the eagle in mountains to the summer road-trip crowd, and the aurora to winter tour groups. Yellowknife is the one market in Canada where mid November to early April is the peak. Our artists localize the northern lights, the bush plane, the raven and the outline bear to each town, and the garments are applique hoodies, crewneck fleece and beanies first, tees second.
How a northern program runs
Ground courier from Vancouver reaches Whitehorse and Yellowknife in about seven business days, so every order is planned two weeks ahead and sized to sell through. The summer order ships by the end of April, the aurora order in October, a January top-up for the February and March groups.
